Question by rob: How come Skype doesn’t offer any online numbers for canada?
I live in Toronto and just signed up to Skype. I wanted to get an
online number but they don’t have any numbers for canada. If
I get a New york number and call a friend in toronto, mississauga, brampton etc, would they get charged a lot because Im calling them using a NY number?

I believe the CRTC is responsible for doling out telephone numbers (i.e. a cell phone company can buy a big ol’ chunk of numbers, and that’s what they’ll be able to offer to customers). Now, why Skype has been unable (or unwilling?) to get some of those numbers is beyond me. Your friends would likely get long-distance charges from any conversations held with you on your New York number, though.
